Exterior staining in Kelowna is mostly about decks and fences that face the sun all summer. A south- or west-facing deck can grey noticeably within a few seasons, and horizontal boards wear far faster than railings or siding. We look at how the wood has weathered, what coating is on it now and how much the space gets used, then recommend a stain that suits the boards, the exposure and the look you want.
Timing matters as much as product. Stain needs dry wood and the right temperature, so we schedule around spring rain and the hottest summer afternoons, and we plan for the deck to be off limits while it cures. If you are hosting family in July, tell us at the estimate and we work back from that date so the deck is cured and ready.
Hillside homes in the Upper Mission, Black Mountain, Dilworth and Wilden often have large raised decks built for the view. Those decks take full sun most of the day. We clean and prep the decking, railings and stair stringers, and stain the parts that are easy to miss, like fascia boards and the edges you see from the yard below.
Lawns and gardens here are watered heavily through the dry summer, and sprinklers soak the bottom of fences and deck skirts again and again. That wet-dry cycle breaks stain down at the base first. We check those areas closely, seal end grain and lower boards carefully, and suggest sprinkler adjustments where they would help.
Some homes, especially on larger lots, use cedar siding, timber posts or log accents. These need stain rather than paint so the wood can breathe. We clean off grey surface fibres, sand rough spots and choose semi-transparent or solid stain depending on how weathered the wood has become.
We stain decks, fences and wood siding across Kelowna. Upper Mission, Black Mountain, Dilworth and Wilden homes tend to have large view decks with long stair runs. Kettle Valley and Glenmore yards often share wood fences between neighbours, and older Rutland decks frequently need old coatings removed before new stain. Lower Mission and South Pandosy properties close to the lake see more moisture on shaded wood, which changes the stain we recommend.
Staining prices in Kelowna depend on the square footage of decking, the length and height of fencing, the number of railings and spindles, and the condition of the old coating. Switching from solid to semi-transparent stain, or stripping a peeling finish, takes the most time. Most work is booked from late spring to early fall when wood is dry. A free on-site estimate gives you an exact price and the cure time before furniture goes back.

“We recently used Prestige Painting to paint our entire office. The process was great and efficient and pricing. Akash was the lead for our project and was very communicative and even caught some areas needing touch ups that I even missed. Touch ups were completed in a timely fashion. Office looks great and employees are happy with the fresh coat of paint.”
“Without a doubt, I would highly recommend Prestige Painting. They arrived for the quote on time and went over all concerns. They arrived on time for the pre walk-through to make sure of colour choice and go over the process again. They arrived on time to paint and did a flawless job!!!”

Late spring and early fall are often the easiest windows: the wood is dry, nights are mild and surfaces are not too hot. Mid-summer works if we stain in the morning or on shaded sections. After rain we wait until the boards have properly dried out before applying any stain.
Yes, with your neighbour's agreement. Shared fences in Kelowna subdivisions look best and last longest when both sides are done. We can quote your side only, or both sides with your neighbour's permission, and arrange access through their yard on the day.
New wood often needs to dry or weather before it takes stain evenly, especially pressure-treated lumber, which can stay damp for a while. On new homes in Wilden, Kettle Valley and other newer areas, we check the moisture first and tell you when the deck is ready rather than staining too early.
