Deck staining in West Kelowna is a regular job because so many homes have decks built off the upper level of a walk-out, facing the lake and the afternoon sun. Those horizontal boards take direct UV for most of the summer and grey, check and splinter quickly once the old stain wears through. Railings, stairs and privacy fences on the sunny side follow close behind. A good stain restores colour and slows that damage.
We clean the wood, strip failing coatings where they are peeling, lightly sand rough boards and protect siding, glass and plants. Then we apply the stain that suits your wood and the look you want, from semi-transparent stains that show the grain to solid stains that cover heavily weathered boards on older Westside decks. Railings and spindles are back-brushed so stain works into every face, and we tell you when the deck is ready for furniture and foot traffic again.
Many Westside decks sit a full storey or more above the yard. That means the underside, posts and stair stringers are visible from below and often missed. We include them when you want them done and set up safe access for the outer rail and fascia boards.
Stain applied to boards that are hot from the afternoon sun can flash dry and leave lap marks. On lake-facing West Kelowna decks we work early in the day and move with the shade, so the stain soaks in evenly rather than sitting on the surface.
Stepped fences running down a hillside lot have more ends, posts and cut edges than a flat run. Those end grains soak up water and fail first. We pay attention to them during prep and staining so the fence wears more evenly along its length.
We stain decks, fences, railings and pergolas throughout West Kelowna, including Lakeview Heights and West Kelowna Estates where raised view decks are common, Rose Valley and Glenrosa on the upper slopes, and Shannon Lake, Smith Creek and Westbank where newer cedar and pressure-treated fences need their first or second coat of protection.
Staining cost in West Kelowna depends on deck and fence size, height above grade, the number of spindles and stairs, the current coating, and whether old stain must be stripped. Moving from solid stain back to a transparent look takes far more prep than recoating the same type. Staining needs dry wood and warm weather, so late spring to early fall is the working season, and spring bookings fill first.

Yes. On many West Kelowna walk-outs the deck structure is in full view from the patio below. We can stain joists, beams, posts and stair stringers along with the top surface. It is quoted as a separate line so you can decide.
New wood usually needs a short period to dry and may need a cleaning or brightening step first. In the dry Westside summer that window is often shorter than in wetter places. We check the wood during the estimate and give you a start date that suits it.
Horizontal boards facing south or west over the lake take the most sun, so they wear faster than fences and railings. It is common. Recoating before the wood fully greys out keeps prep lighter and makes each refresh cheaper than a full strip.
