Exterior painting in West Kelowna is mostly a fight with the afternoon sun. Many homes sit on hillsides that face south or west across Okanagan Lake, so siding, garage doors and trim take hours of direct heat every summer day. Those elevations fade, chalk and peel well before the shaded side of the house. A lasting repaint starts with washing off dust and chalk, scraping and sanding failing paint, sealing stucco cracks and spot-priming bare wood before any finish coat goes on.
Height is the other factor. Walk-out homes often have a three-storey rear wall that drops down the slope, with a deck hanging off the middle level. We plan ladder and staging positions for those elevations during the estimate, protect decks and landscaping, and confirm colours on site so you see them against your own roof and stone. You get a written quote listing every surface before any work is scheduled.
The lake-facing sides of Westside homes take the harshest late-day sun. We check those walls closely for chalking and failed caulk, prime bare spots carefully, and steer colour choices toward shades that hold up better in strong UV. Very dark colours on a sunny west wall show fading sooner.
Sloped lots mean the front can look like a rancher while the back is three storeys high. We plan safe access for those walls, work around decks and patios below, and follow WorkSafeBC practices for working at height, which is a big part of the job on many hillside homes.
Stucco on hillside homes expands and contracts with hot days and cool nights, and some settling adds hairline cracks. We clean and fill those cracks, then use breathable masonry coatings so trapped moisture can escape instead of blistering the new finish.
Our exterior crews work throughout West Kelowna: Lakeview Heights and West Kelowna Estates with their tall view homes, Shannon Lake and Smith Creek with newer stucco and fibre-cement houses, Rose Valley and Glenrosa higher up the slopes, and the more established streets of Westbank. Homes up the hill tend to have the most exposed elevations, and we account for that in prep and scheduling.
Most homes take 2–5 days, and the best season runs from late spring to early fall. In West Kelowna, price depends mainly on wall height and access, how much scraping the sun-facing sides need, stucco repair, and the number of colours. A tall walk-out takes longer to stage than a rancher of the same floor area. We plan hot-weather days so paint goes onto walls that are not in full afternoon sun, which can stretch the schedule slightly in July and August.

Yes, but not in full afternoon sun. Paint applied to a wall baking in direct heat dries too fast and can lap or fail early. On West Kelowna jobs we follow the shade around the house, painting west and south sides in the morning and east sides later in the day.
We look at the slope, the deck and what sits below during the free estimate, then plan ladders or staging that suit it. Decks and patios are protected first. Tall rear walls are common on the Westside, so access is built into the quote rather than added later.
Usually the south and west walls that face the lake. They get the most UV and heat, so paint chalks and caulk dries out sooner. We often find the shaded side in decent shape, which can let you budget for heavier prep only where it is needed.
